Tips to help keeping your teeth healthy during holiday season
Its exciting, the holiday season is here in Oakville and we want to wish all our patients a happy holiday season. We would like to wish you a safe and happy holidays and enjoy your time with family and friends.
To help you achieve a beautiful smile during holiday, we provided a list holiday dental tips:
Christmas candies and your teeth:
As everything thing else in life, tasty things aren’t necessarily the best for your health. Christmas candies can cause you to get cavities. Consider eliminating candies or limiting them to one kind. Alternatively, you can look for healthy alternatives.
Soda drinks in the holiday season
Holiday dinners are filled with sugary drinks. Drinking a large amount of sugary drinks may result in softening your enamel. This may be reversible in some cases. Consider limiting the frequency of the drink intake. For example, it is less damaging to the teeth to drink more a drink in one setting versus sipping on smaller amounts throughout the day.
Enjoy your wine responsibly
We all love wine, especially around the holiday season. If you are concerned about your smile and the possible stains from the red wine, consider white clear wine instead. Make sure you brush well to prevent staining. Also, you have to wait 30 minutes before brushing to prevent losing minerals from the teeth.
Food to have on your dinner table
If you are concerned about oral health for your family, consider protein rich food sources such as turkey. Its a great source of protein which helps fight decay. Also, add healthy vegetables to the mix. Vegetables are great source of vitamin to strengthen teeth and great source for fibers. Another great food choice would be cheese. In fact, cheese contains minerals like calcium and as we know calcium can rebuild damaged enamel and help prevent decay as well.
Your brushing and flossing.
We all know that holidays can put the brushing and flossing to a complete stall. Be aware that the brushing and flossing are specifically important during holidays as the sugar intake tend to be higher, therefore, the risk of decay is higher. It is recommended to brush twice a day and floss before bed time. Consider spending enough time brushing before bed to remove all the food particles in between your teeth.
Teeth as tools – Big no.
For dentists, we tend to see increased amount of chipped teeth in January every year. If you thinking to open packages and bottles using your teeth, kindly don’t. Using teeth to cut or open objects can badly damage the structure and result in pain. Consider having tools handy to open presents and bottles.
To all our patients in Oakville ON, Bronte Road Family Dental hopes you have a safe, happy and healthy holiday and a happy new year.
